Assisting local communities through purchasing of goods/services, employment opportunities and awareness of the environment/culture.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

Committed to supporting the local communities through buying & promoting locally made products, and assisting the local Sunday School. We also try to educate guests on the local culture and how to minimise their impact on culture & environment during their stay. Staff are sourced locally and supported by the hotel in numerous ways. We try to take steps wherever we can to minimise environmental impact & water wastage.

We buy all our fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and Samoan handicrafts from locals; as well as much of our room furnishings. We also encourage guests to buy locally made handicrafts. We run a number of tours providing an opportunity to learn about the local culture & history; and put on ‘fiafia' presenting Samoan song and dance.

All of our employees (except 1 person) are sourced & trained from the surrounding villages. Employees are also paid well above the set rate, including regular payments to their NPF fund, and receiving 2 weeks annual leave per year. All management position (except 1) are all held by locals.

Supports the local Sunday School by providing access to computers, email & copying services, financial support, and the resort vehicle for a number of village and church activities.

We have installed toilets with a low flush option and actively maintain & repair any leaking taps or showerheads in order to minimise water wastage.
