Leilua Tutogi Mailei, Co-Owner

Chief Leilua Tutogi is a retiree who along with her sister, Mate Schuster, owns and operates this Beach Fale Operation. Leilua says that while in Apia they visited relatives at Lalomanu and stayed at the beach fales. After a while they decided to set up something similar in Savaii, especially as a lot of surfers stop by their shop asking for accommodation.

Quoting Leilua: "We began in 1994 with one big fale. This grew to three fales in 1995, then as they say, the rest is history. We particularly enjoy inviting her guests to enjoy the Sunday Toonai or feast."

"The over the water fale was ok, although it was really just a house over the water. We also didn't realise that there were other rooms in the house rented out to other travellers, so if you are looking for privacy, you are probably better off in a beach fale. The food was wonderful, probably the best we've had so far. You get to choose your dinner from a menu and they prepare it for you in time for dinner, all included in the cost of accommodation. The only gripe I have was that no-one told us we had to pre-order our dinner when we checked in, so we were in the restaurant waiting an hour and a half for our dinner. That would have been fine if the waitress had come and let us know that our meals might be awhile, but she walked past us several times and didn't even stop to tell us how long we should expect to wait - and we were the only customers in there. All it would have taken was a few words and we would have been happy to wait."

"a lot of good food, friendly people and individual service!"
Mrs. Carolin W. - Germany on 26/03/2009
"We stayed at Satuitua- it offers a very authentic Samoan beachside experience. The "over the water" fale is actually a waterfront bungalow on stilts which is relatively new and bulky on the shoreline- but it offers wonderful views and spacious airy accommodation with balconies and decks. The beach fales were the most beautiful we saw in all our time in Samoa- and the small size of the venue - about 6 fales in all makes it intimate and friendly. Food was fantastic- some of the tastiest we had anywhere on Samoa. In all Satuitua was our favourite place opn our trip- the reef also was wonderful and in great condition especially if you head out to the deepere waters"

"Had a lovely time, beautiful beach with quite good snorkelling. Service was a little bit slow at times and bar/restuarant hardly had change available.

A big disappointment was we had paid a deposit and had our booking confirmed for the 'over-the-water' Fale only to find the owner had agreed to let some relatives stay there instead. We had to stay in a different Fale next to the road. The Fale in was fine but it was frustrating not to have the one we booked especially as we had been looking forward to stayin over the water. "
Ms. Heather D. - Australia on 04/10/2008
"We really enjoyed our stay. Definitely a sense of community as the place not packed with fales, and we loved being able to listen to the waves whilst in bed. We were impressed with the fact that all 3 meals where included in the price (and although quite basic were still yummy)."
Ms. Rachel J. - New Zealand on 18/07/2007
"We spent our first two nights of our first visit to Samoa at this resort. our experience was one of feeling comfortable and very much at home. The manageress provides a personal touch that allows you to feel you are her personal guests. Food, service, cleanliness all simple but good. A stunning setting. A wonderful way to start our holiday in Samoa."
Mrs. Yvonne T. - New Zealand on 08/01/2007
"Well run, lovely people asnd the dinners were the best we had anywhere in Samoa including the "resorts""
Mr. Douglas & Sue W. - New Zealand on 07/09/2006
"Slightly more expensive than other fale, but there is a really nice feel to the place. Great communal area where people stop to chat, play cards etc."
