Savaiian Hotel may not have a beach, but the fishing, snorkelling and kayaking more than make up for it. There is a swimming pool to relax in and enjoy the balmy sea breeze while working on your tan.
Le Sogaimiti Restaurant & Bar: This is the newest addition to Savaiian Hotel, located on the water's edge amid manicured lawns and offering a la carte dining. The Restaurant & Bar can also be reconfigured for conferences or special events and can easily seat up to100 people.
Le Sogaimiti Bar offers Vailima beers and a selection of spirits and wines. A range of cocktails is currently being worked on. In honour of the Sogaimiti and its historical significance as described below, all visitors with either the "Pe'a" (males only) or "Malu" (females only) will receive a 10% Patriotic Discount on bar items.
A little bit of Samoan history and background as to the meaning of Sogaimiti - "Sogaimiti" is the name given to the traditional almost full-body tattoo undertaken by men in Samoa. It is a practice available to all men and in the olden days signified the coming into manhood of a young boy.
The Samoans take great pride in their customs and culture, and the art of tattooing has survived the onslaught of colonialism and religion. The Pe'a signifies honour and strength and is displayed with much pride by those men who have chosen to undertake this painful historical practice.
The pain that comes with the traditional tattoo requires a Herculean effort on the part of the recipient; hence this was always reserved for the strong warriors of Samoa. The Le Sogaimiti Restaurant was so named as the family of the current owners are strong supporters of this practice, with five of their nine children having been tattooed already.
Savaiian Hotel has DVD players with a collection of DVDs for hire. Roughly 50 steps from the hotel are an ice-cream parlour and a DVD rental place as well, for a wider selection of movies.
